Our
Journey
Support for Families (S4F) was founded in Stirling in 1999 by a group of local mums, heartbroken by the lack of support for families affected by substance abuse, trauma ad hardship.
Determined to create change, they launched Stirling Family Support Service and set up a volunteer-run helpline - 19 strong - offering a compassionate, non-judgemental to those navigating tough times.
The grassroots vision quickly took root. Our Chief Officer helped establish and operate Scotland's first national helpline for families affected by drugs, working through the Scottish Network for Families Affected by Drugs (SNFAD), where S4F was one of four leading organisations. The national commitment to connection and care continues to shape us today.
Now known as Support for Families (S4F), we are respected, trauma-informed charity supporting hundreds of individuals and families every year. Our services have expanded, but our values remain the same: community, compassion, empowerment and hope.
Every step of our journey - from a handful of volunteers to a growing team - has been made possible by the people who believe in what we do. We're proud to still be listening, still evolving, and still standing alongside families across Stirling and beyond.
